Spy Shots: New Mercedes-Benz S-Class XL for those Who Miss the Maybach

Given how competitive German carmakers are with each other, even more in the luxury segments, it was rather surprising to see Mercedes-Benz's parent company Daimler throwing in the white towel and announcing the death of Maybach, thus leaving the BMW Group with its Rolls-Royce brand and the VW Group with Bentley alone in most exotic saloon category.

We don't know what will happen in the distant future, but for now, Daimler is looking to cover parts of the segment with special versions of its spanking new S-Class with much longer wheelbases and increased luxury appointments.
