This Is The 2016 Skoda Roomster That Got Axed

Images with the updated version of the Roomster have surfaced on the web, revealing the actual car that was supposed to be launched next year.

The second-gen Roomster was axed, as the brand decided to focus on crossovers and SUVs instead of a rebadged Volkswagen Caddy and, purportedly, it has nothing to do with the emissions scandal that forced the VW Group to reconsider its future models.

Just as expected, the 2016 model would have featured the corporate grille, along with different graphics for the lighting units. The vehicle was also supposed to get bespoke exterior trimmings, more space in the cabin and an engine range similar to the one of the Caddy, including the 1.0-liter, 1.2-liter and 1.4-liter petrol units along with by diesel powertrains.

Reports indicate that Skoda has already built approximately 100 units of the compact people carrier. They'll never hit the market, though, as the automaker is focusing on a VW Tiguan-based SUV, allegedly called the Kodiak.

The new SUV should make its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, next October. It will reportedly be offered in five- and seven-seat versions and will be manufactured at Skoda's Kvasiny plant in the Czech Republic.
