Ford Official Dismisses Fiesta RS Rumors
In spite of a number of reports about an RS version of the compact, Ford has no intention of launching such a model.
Originally rumored for 2017, the Fiesta RS is not under consideration. Ford Performance's chief engineer and head of vehicles, Tyrone Johnson, who spoke to CarAdvice at the launch of the new Focus RS, was adamant about that.
"In terms of Fiesta RS, I have seen some comments from senior Ford people that it’s definitely not in the plan. Typically we don’t talk about future products, but in that particular one there has been some comments that it’s definitely not in the plan", he said.
The RS should have used the same 1.6-liter engine as the ST, with an uprated turbo, an output close to 250hp sent to the front wheels, different tuning for the suspension and uprated brakes.
Ford Performance will introduce seven models before 2020, among which there might be hotter versions of the Kuga, Ranger, and Mondeo.
