Commercial Van Sales In Canada - January 2016

Canadian commercial van sales jumped 7.5% in 2015, rising above 2200 units despite a sharp 23% drop in sales of small commercial vans. The story was similar south of the border.

Despite the addition of 71 Mercedes-Benz Metris sales, the 22% drop in Ford Transit Connect volume and Ram's inability to make up for lost Cargo Van sales with ProMaster City sales dragged the smaller sub-segment down by 188 units. The ProMaster City nevertheless began the year as the top-selling small commercial van.

Full-size vans, on the other hand, were propelled to a 27% year-over-year improvement thanks to the best-selling Ford Transit's 42% increase and gains from the GM full-size twins, which combined to outsell the Transit.

The Ram ProMaster slid 16%, however, and Canadian sales of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter fell 35% to just 203 units, the lowest total for the Sprinter since August 2012. The Metris made up for much of the Sprinter's lost volume, but not all of it.
