Large SUV Sales In Canada - January 2016

Canadian sales of full-size, truck-based, volume brand SUVs jumped 38% to 726 units in January 2016. 

January remains a low-volume month for the Canadian auto industry. Even though total new vehicle sales rose to the second-highest January level ever last month, January 2016's 108,553-unit sales tally was still lower than any non-January month from 2015, the best year ever for the Canadian auto industry.

Thus, while the year-over-year tally for these full-size SUVs was way up, January's total isn't a huge factor in the long-range success of the segment as a whole. In December, for instance, Canadians registered nearly 1100 of these vehicles.

Worthy of note, nevertheless, was the January dominance achieved by GM's quartet. 74% of the category's sales were generated by GM's four candidates, a foursome which ended January ranked first, second, third, and fourth in the category. 

General Motors Canada also sold 153 copies of the Escalade and Escalade ESV in January. (Ford sold 36 Expedition-based Lincoln Navigators.)
