Commercial Van Sales In Canada - July 2016 YTD

Canadian sales of commercial vans took a 7% dive in July 2016 despite gains from the leading seller of commercial vans, Ford.

The Ford Transit, Canada's best-selling full-size van and top-selling commercial van overall, jumped 21% to 971 units. The Ford Transit Connect, the controlling van in the small commercial van segment, rose 6% to 279 units.

Gains in other corners of the category were rare, however. These caused Ford's market share to rise ten points from 33% in July 2015 to 43% in July 2016.

Year-to-date, much of the gains produced by the overall commercial van category have arisen from full-size players. Though the arrival of new products in recent years and months should theoretically drive sales of small vans forward, newer vans are largely stealing sales from other small vans.

Not so in the full-size sector, where sales through the first seven months of 2016 jumped 13%.
