Midsize SUV Sales In Canada - September 2016 YTD

Canadian sales of the Ford Explorer declined 5% in September 2016, the fourth consecutive month of decline for Canada's top-selling three-row utility vehicle.

But while Explorer volume falters slightly, many of its key challengers are on the upswing. Toyota Highlander sales are up 26% this year, a gain of 2007 units through the first nine months of 2016. Dodge Durango sales nearly tripled to 395 units in September and have risen 71% so far this year. The Hyundai Santa Fe XL reported a 16% uptick in September, the seventh consecutive month of improvement for Hyundai's biggest utility vehicle. Year-to-date sales of the Mazda CX-9, newly launched for 2016, have essentially doubled.

Back at Ford, the Explorer is part of a utility vehicle lineup that's seen sales rise 3% in September 2016. While SUV/crossover volume in the industry at large has grown 11% this year, Ford SUV/CUV sales are growing much more slowly. 

And yet no automaker, Jeep included, has sold more SUVs/crossovers than Ford so far this year.
